Running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Windows 10 laptop. The gnome desktop is not loading. I get the following message when I check status:

sudo systemctl status gdm3● gdm.service - GNOME Display Manager Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/gdm.service; static; vendor preset: enabled) Active: active (running) since Tue 2023-10-03 15:41:47 CDT; 3min 23s ago Main PID: 568 (gdm3) Tasks: 3 (limit: 7022) Memory: 3.2M CGroup: /system.slice/gdm.service└─568 /usr/sbin/gdm3Oct 03 15:41:45 DESKTOP-5RBR90M systemd[1]: Starting GNOME Display Manager...Oct 03 15:41:47 DESKTOP-5RBR90M systemd[1]: Started GNOME Display Manager.Oct 03 15:41:49 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm-launch-environment][581]: pam_unix(gdm-launch-environment:session): session opened for user gdm by (uid=0)Oct 03 15:42:12 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm3[568]: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failingOct 03 15:42:12 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm3[568]: Child process -647 was already dead.Oct 03 15:42:12 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm3[568]: Child process -647 was already dead.Oct 03 15:42:12 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm-launch-environment][1026]: pam_unix(gdm-launch-environment:session): session opened for user gdm by (uid=0)Oct 03 15:42:29 DESKTOP-5RBR90M gdm3[568]: Child process -1032 was already dead.

I have tried changing the /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file, exposing the Waylandenable=false command, tried changing it to true, enabling auto login, changing user to my user name. I've deleted and reinstalled GDM3. At one point I checked the Windows VMP and hypervisor boxes, rebooting between each change Currently VMP is enabled, hypervisor is not

This was installed by WSL Virtualization in the BIOS is enabled. Tried the bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto command. It was not enabled initially.
