I am using Ubuntu 16.04 on WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux). However, I am facing the following issues:
I am unable to update or install packages due to 404 Not Found and 403 Forbidden errors.The gcc package is not working or installable.I understand that Ubuntu 16.04 has reached its end of life (EOL), and I need to configure my /etc/apt/sources.list file to use http://archive.ubuntu.com. I updated my sources list as follows:deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-security main restricted universe multiverse
Despite making these changes, I still encounter the following error when running sudo apt-get update
W: The repository 'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
E: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 185.125.190.40 80]
How can I fix this and successfully update packages or install gcc on Ubuntu 16.04 WSL?
