I'm having trouble registering Ubuntu (any Ubuntu version, actually) in WSL2.
Context:
I've been using WSL for a while. However, one day I opened it and somehow my Ubuntu was showing this error:
Installing, this may take a few minutes...WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x80070002Error: 0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.Press any key to continue...When I press any key, the terminal closes. This has happened every time I opened that terminal.
I remember updating my OS for those periodically updates of Windows. Perhaps that caused the error.
My computer's characteristics are:
- Windows 11 enterprise, version 23H2, OS build 22631.5768.
- 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.
- All downloads point to C: OS disk.
- Virtualization enabled.
And my WSL2 installed has these characteristics:
The most recent version of Windows Subsystem for Linux is already installed.
PS C:\windows\system32> wsl --versionWSL version: 2.5.10.0Kernel version: 6.6.87.2-1WSLg version: 1.0.66MSRDC version: 1.2.6074Direct3D version: 1.611.1-81528511DXCore version: 10.0.26100.1-240331-1435.ge-releaseWindows version: 10.0.22631.5768 # Windows 11 is also registered with 10.0.*Solutions I've tried so far:
Deleting everything related to WSL and Ubuntu, disabled the features (VirtualMachinePlatform and WindowsSubsystemForLinux), rebooted, then enabled those features again, rebooted one more time, reinstalled everything, and registered the distro again. (Didn't work, same error shown).
Downloaded Ubuntu via PowerShell and registered it through commands. (Didn't work, same error shown).
Resetted Microsoft Store through an .exe script, downloaded the distro, and then tried registering it again. (Didn't work, same error shown).
Downloaded the distro through an APPX package and registered it through commands. (Didn't work, same error shown).
Any ideas please?
Is WSL2 unstable as opposed to WSL1?
What file(s) am I missing here?
Does my Windows build has something to do with all of this?
